Invest in strategic sales+marketing to drive profitable business

The future of b2b sales+marketing is strategy, authenticity and investment in your client's experience.

What does this actually mean? The days of social media profiles littered with meaningless content, obsession with keywords, buzz words and using b2c marketing for b2b is, thankfully, over.

Those of us that have been in the trenches of b2b sales+marketing for decades have been ringing the alarm bell about the state of b2b sales+marketing for what feels like forever. We can confidently say that the penny is dropping and businesses are finally ready to admit its failures and accept the changes required to market their businesses and make profitable sales. Luckily, this is right on time, because we already have an inkling of what the future is going to require from businesses, and it ain’t business as usual.

Welcome to the basics blog. Here I’ll attempt to share two decades of experience and knowledge on how to make b2b sales and marketing work as the proverbial tin says.

You might be a b2b sales or marketing person looking for new perspectives and strategies to get the results you’re after, perhaps you’re a frustrated b2b business owner fed up with marketing that just doesn’t work and you’re looking for an experienced marketer with sales experience to work with, or you might even be from the b2c crowd, curious how to up your game using some of the effective approaches in b2b for your consumer marketing.

Whoever you are, I hope you find inspiration, a different perspective, understanding of trends, research and resources here so we can together (sales+marketers unite!) turn the tide.

Let’s face it, there’s a lot going on in the global business landscape, and add to that the fact that conventional b2b sales+marketing approaches are ineffective and often heart wrenchingly dreadful – businesses are going to need all the help they can get (and a proper sit-down most likely), and we marketers and sales people are ideally positioned to rise to the occasion.

Let me be your guide…

In my experience, there are 3 primary problem areas with b2b sales+marketing that I’ll focus on. These are:

      • marketing and sales not working together + how to integrate them effectively

      • marketing and sales’ negative reputation and ineffectiveness + how to change this

      • client experience, value proposition and strategy being misapplied + how to better understand and effectively use them

There is a lot of ground to cover within each of these problem areas so I’ll be posting weekly to really get into the thick of it. At this point I think it important to let you know up front what you’re in for should you choose to stick around:

You can expect paragraphs that actually say something, content written for humans (not machines), an avoidance of listicles, content with depth covering a range of subjects and tactics, research, examples, sharing of my experience, knowledge and divergent perspective. I encourage you to share your thoughts, comments, suggestions and experiences so we can learn from one another.

I’ll leave that there for today. I hope to see you again next week when I start with well, the basics.

    Cheers
